About Michiel Schaap
Michiel Schaap studied Naval Architecture at Delft University of Technology and specialised in Maritime Business Studies during the Master phase.
For more than twenty five years Michiel was employed by Seatrade, a leading reefer vessel Owner and operator. He was responsible for the contacts with the members of the Seatrade Reefer Pool.
The Pool consisted at its peak of more than 150 reefer vessels owned by Owners from European and Asian countries including Japan and South Korea.
Over the years Michiel became also responsible for the sale and purchase of vessels for Seatrade. As a result of his contacts with the members of the Reefer Pool and the prime position of Seatrade in the reefer market he started to expand the S&P activities to competitive brokering.
Michiel was directly involved in transactions in which more than 200 vessels changed ownership. During those years he has successfully done business with Buyers and Sellers from The Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Greece, Cyprus, Curacao, USA, UAE, Mauritius, Japan, South Korea, China, Thailand, Taiwan, Russia and the Philippines.
BirdsEye Marine is handling Seatrade’s second hand sale and purchase activities on exclusive basis. During his career Michiel has been able to combine his love for shipping with working with people of many different nationalities and cultural backgrounds and he continues to do so in BirdsEye Marine.
Your partner in S&P
BirdsEye Marine approaches targeted Buyers or Sellers either directly or via its extensive network instead of through widespread circulation of sales candidates or enquiries by use of distribution lists. BirdsEye Marine is the perfect partner to discretely charter, purchase or sell vessels.
For clients who exactly know what tonnage they want to buy BirdsEye Marine will, like a bird of prey, search and closely monitor the market to pick out the ideal candidates matching the clients’ requirements.
For clients who are open to consider a wider range of candidates of potentially varying vessel types BirdsEye Marine can, with a bird’s eye view, establish and map out the opportunities in the relevant market segments.
BirdsEye Marine will for clients who want to sell tonnage use its network of Owners and co-brokers to find and approach the right potential Buyers.
It is BirdsEye Marine’s policy to work direct with Buyers and Sellers where possible but commitments with co-brokers are of course respected.
